Face Yoga Experience: Why I Dropped Out of an E-Course and How Face Yoga Became an Everyday Habit
Have you started face yoga with great motivation, only to find the exercises forgotten after a few weeks? I have.
When I joined MaiWistik's face yoga e-course "10x Younger Without Surgical Intervention", I started with maximum discipline. I did the face yoga exercises, followed the instructions, and was completely convinced that this would become my new daily beauty routine.
Then summer arrived. Holidays, family, work, travel, and everything else that real life consists of. At one point, I realized I had completely abandoned face yoga.
Today, I'm doing face yoga again. But not because I have more time or stronger motivation.
I changed the system. And that's what transformed face yoga for me from an activity I should do into a habit I no longer have to plan separately.

Why is starting face yoga easier than being consistent?
Forming a new habit always requires overcoming a certain discomfort. For me, starting face yoga involved two kinds of discomfort.
First, you have to stand in front of a mirror and watch yourself doing face yoga exercises, which can seem quite strange at first.
If you're used to checking the mirror to see if your hair is tidy or your mascara hasn't smudged, observing yourself in the midst of creative face-making requires a bit of self-irony. At first, it just feels weird.
Second, facial muscles don't change after one workout, just as the body doesn't change after one gym visit. If we don't see a big change after the first effort, the brain quickly starts asking:
"Is this face yoga really worth it?"
And this is one of the biggest reasons why a new beauty routine can fall by the wayside. Motivation alone is not enough. You need a system that makes practicing easy enough to do even on a busy day.
Face yoga doesn't have to mean a long beauty ritual
The word "face yoga" initially gave me a slightly wrong impression. It sounds like a luxurious ritual for someone who has an hour to themselves in the mornings, with a candle burning and the whole day starting in complete zen. My life isn't really like that.
And probably not many others' either. Therefore, I started looking at face yoga more pragmatically. We train our bodies to maintain muscle strength and tone. We brush our teeth every day because we know that consistent care is more important than one big effort once a month.
Our face also has muscles that we use every day when speaking, eating, laughing, frowning, and focusing on a screen. When I started looking at face yoga from this perspective, the feeling that it was just another big project disappeared. It simply became training facial muscles for a few minutes at a time. How did I finally make face yoga an everyday habit?
My breakthrough didn't come when I had more free time. That time never appeared. The breakthrough came when I stopped looking for separate time for face yoga and linked it to an activity I do every day anyway.
Brushing my teeth.
Today, in the morning, while brushing my teeth, I do one or two rounds of face yoga exercises and often use a facial roller as well.
In behavioral psychology, this approach is called habit stacking. A new habit is not tried to be remembered separately, but is linked to an existing automatic activity. In my case, the anchor is brushing my teeth.
Brushing teeth → face yoga.
It's that simple. This works much better for me than the thought:
"I must find ten minutes for face yoga today." Because "later", in a fast-paced life, surprisingly often means "not today."

How long should you do face yoga daily?
One of the most important shifts in mindset for me was realizing that face yoga doesn't have to mean a long workout. I don't need to go through the whole program every morning.
I choose one or two exercises depending on what my face needs that day. Some mornings I pay more attention to the area around my eyes. On another day, my jaw, cheeks, or neck. This is what makes the practice feasible in real life.
Instead of waiting for the day when I have an ideal 20-minute free moment, I do a small part. And strangely enough, this means I now do face yoga much more consistently.
Face yoga for beginners: don't start too big
If you're just starting face yoga, I would do things differently today than I did during my first attempt. I wouldn't try to create an ideal morning or evening routine all at once.
I would start as small as possible:
- choose 1–2 face yoga exercises;
- link them to an existing habit;
- do the exercises in front of a mirror at first;
- focus on technique, not the number of exercises;
- only then add new exercises.
The smaller the threshold for starting a new habit, the less you have to negotiate with yourself. For me, the most significant change now is that the phase of laziness is over. I no longer have to remind myself to do face yoga. It has become almost as automatic as putting toothpaste on my brush. Read more in the article "how facial muscles affect emotions and aging".
Why choose an online face yoga course when there are free exercises online?
This was a question I only got the clearest answer to after completing the course. The internet is full of face yoga exercises and free videos. Therefore, the value of a good online face yoga course for me is not just that there's a list of exercises somewhere. The value is in the system.
As a beginner, it's harder to understand:
- which exercises to start with;
- how to do face yoga exercises correctly;
- which areas are trained by different exercises;
- how to avoid excessive tension;
- how to combine exercises;
- and how to finally integrate all the knowledge into your daily life.
MaiWistik's "10x Younger Without Surgical Intervention" face yoga e-course gave me exactly that structure. When you understand why you're doing a certain exercise, you don't have to go through the whole program every day. You can choose for yourself.
One morning, your eyes need more attention. On another day, your jaw or neck. Sometimes, one or two face yoga exercises are enough.
For me, this is the greatest value of the course: knowledge ultimately becomes a skill that you can adapt to your own life.
The key to face yoga results isn't motivation, but consistency
My first attempt at face yoga was abandoned. But I no longer consider it a failure. On the contrary. I first had to try making face yoga a "new project" to realize that something else entirely worked for me:
small action + existing habit + consistency
Today, I don't wonder in the morning if I have enough motivation to do face yoga. I just brush my teeth. And I do my exercises along with it. Maybe you don't need more time for face yoga either. Maybe you just need to make it such a small and natural part of your day that you no longer have a reason to skip it. Because the best face yoga routine isn't one you do perfectly for two weeks.
The best routine is one you can do even on a typical busy Tuesday morning.
